What a way to end the year!

Comets are Housley Classic Champions!
Comets 4 - Old Tappan 3 (OT)

Well it was a great way to finish up the year! The Comets got the win they needed to become the Housley Classic champions for the second time in three years! Not bad. The Comets played a very strong first period, outplaying Old Tappan and jumping to a 3-1 lead. It looked as if they took Old Tappan by surprise. But Old Tappan came back strong in the second and third period, and kept chipping away at the Comets.

Old Tappan kept on the pressure and got the game to within one goal. Then with just over a minute to go in the game the Comets were face with a 5 minute penalty. Even after Old Tappan pulled their goalie, and had a 6 on 4 advantage, it looked as if the Comets were going to pull out the win. Then with less than 9 seconds to go, the puck found its way to an open player on the back door of the net and he buried the puck to tie the game!

After what seemed to be a bit of confusion, it was decided that they would play a full period of sudden death over time. And the Comets would spend the first almost 4 minutes shorthanded. Old Tappan had all the momentum in their favor. They had just tied the game with seconds left in the game, and now they go into OT on a power play! Credit the Comets for playing a great penalty kill!everyone did what they were supposed to do, from the goal tending to the defense to the offense. They killed the penalty and got Felipe back onto the ice.

Moments late, Robbie Marut was able to get a pass up to a breaking Felipe, who was streaking past the defense. With no one in front of him other than the goalie, Felipe ripped a wrist shot past him to win the game! What a great finish!

Now the Comets get to enjoy a relaxing New Years weekend, and then switch their focus to
their next opponent, the visiting team from Canada, the College Jean-de-Brebeuf (Montreal QC) on Tuesday at 3:15 at the Ice House. Hope to see you there!

We also would like to take this time to wish you all a very Happy New Year!
