Closer, Just Not Close Enough ...

01.27.13     Comets 1 - Clifton 2

This  game was tough ... in more ways than one! This game was physical from the start. There were a ton of hard hits, given out by both teams! There were some questionable calls ... or missed calls, but it was still an incredibly exciting game!

The Comets went down 0-1 and were having a tough time getting shots to the net to tie it up. Eventually Thomas would tie it up scoring from behind the goal line, banking it off the goalie!

Unfortunately after a couple of miscues with the puck, Clifton would again pull ahead. The end of the game was incredibly exciting with plenty of pressure from the Comets, and even a pulled goalie in the last minute of the game, but it was Clifton that would hold on to the lead at the end of the game.

The Comets still need 2 more wins to make it to States. Maybe if they can play with the same intensity as the last 2 games, and get more pucks on the net, they will have better results. They're next game is this Friday against Bayonne. It will be "Seniors Night" where we will honor the graduating Seniors. Please come out and show your support for the Comets! Let's fill up the stands! See you Friday!

A Tough Night

01.25.13 Comets 2 - River Dell 3

Well what can you say. A loss is a loss. Even though River Dell had a couple of not so great games against Dumont and Bayonne, they were definitely up for the game against our Comets! The game was a tough one, with some very physical play, but the Comets kept on trying. Eventually they just could not keep up, and the game ended in a 3-2 loss.

The magic number remains at 2 for the Comets to make States.

Senior Night ...

We are planning on having our Senior Night, Friday Jan. 25th, which will be our last regular season home game, and will be against Bayonne.

Senior Night is a night where we honor our graduating seniors before the game, in a short ceremony.

Let's try to get those stands filled, and show our seniors, as well as the rest of the team, our support and how much we appreciate their tremendous effort this season!

Feel free to pass this on to all your family and friends!

A Tough Loss ...

01.21.13   Comets 1 - Fair Lawn 5

With the Comets coming off a string of wins, and facing a team that they loss in just the last 7 seconds of their last meeting, there was a lot of positive anticipation for this game! Fair Lawn took the lead in the first period, but the Comets fought back to tie up the game. However Fair Lawn would pull away to a 2-1 lead by the end of the first.

This game was definitely more physical than the last few games the Comets have played. Some cheap shots were called ... some weren't .... as shown in one of the photos below. Can anyone find the uncalled Cross Check in the following photos?

Fair Lawn would end the second period with a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd. The Comets came out flying in the 3rd, pushing, trying to get that goal to put them within one. They got close when a shot rang off the post. Soon after Fair Lawn would score their 4th goal late in the 3rd, quickly followed by the 5th. That is how it would end.

Now the Comets have to build on the positives of this game (even though it was a loss) and bring the same intensity to the River Dell game this Friday! Let's go Comets!

Another Solid Effort!

1.19.13   Comets 6 - Vernon 2

The Comets made the long ride up to Skylands rink well worth the trip! The Comets came out playing hard right from the start and turned the solid play into the lead over Vernon. They continued to build on that lead playing smart hockey. The hard play would lead to a few Comet power plays, though one unfortunately did lead to a short handed goal. That, however, did not slow the Comets down, as they pulled away to a 6 to 2 win over Vernon!

The control the Comets had over this game allowed them to focused on good passing and organized positioning. These are some important skills they are going to need going into the  remaining games this season. There are still a lot of good teams they will be facing, and they will need to be at the top of their game as they go into the home stretch!

Everyone Does get involved!

01.14.13   Comets 7 - Hudson Catholic 2

The idea was this game was going to be a great opportunity for everyone to get in the game. However Hudson Catholic had other ideas. They played hard and strong, and manage to come out to a 1-0 lead in the first period. The Comets tried to settle down, and gain control of the game and finished the first period with a 2-1 lead. The second period would see more of the same, and the teams would each score one goal and it would be 3-2 at the end of the second. It wasn't until the third period that the Comets would really start to pull ahead, giving the opportunity to get the freshman players into the game. Strong play continued and the Comets finished with a 7-2 win!
