HUdson Catholic Win and Ridgewood Snow

Hudson Catholic:
Well the Hudson Catholic game went pretty much as expected. Comets played well and skated to a 6 -1 win. Keep in mind all 6 goals were scored in the first period. The outdoor rink was also as cold as could be! Probably the biggest thing to come from the game was Max's first varsity goal. Congratulations Max!

It was also good to see Billy Regan and the Freshmen getting a lot of ice time. Good job Comets!

Ridgewood:
Well, the much anticipated game against first place Ridgewood will just have to wait. The game was canceled due to the snow storm that was on it's way. We'll just have to wait a little longer for this match up.

Hope everyone had fun playing in the snow!

New Game Recap Link

A link on the right side of this blog has been added called "Star Ledger Recaps". It is a link to the Hackensack Comets Ice Hockey Team game recaps and highlights. It actually goes back to last year as well. Here is the link:

If anyone has any other sites they like to go to for stats and or game recaps, let us know and we will add the link.

Let's Not Forget About JV

With all the interest in the Varsity team, let's not forget the JV squad did have a game last week. This team is made up of 3 freshmen, 5 sophomores, and 1 junior. The JV squad will try to get a few games in this season, but it is difficult since most of the JV players are also regulars on the Varsity team.

The JV team's season opener was against River Dell. Starting the game with only 8 skaters, the Comets knew this game was going to be all about conditioning. The Comets started off strong with a goal by Justin Sese, and with solid goal tending were looking very good. Unfortunately with one player being injured in the middle of the game, the JV team was now down to 7 skaters, against a much larger River Dell bench. River Dell came back with 2 goals to take the lead and eventually the win.

For their first outing the JV squad should be proud of how they played and how they were able to hang in there with such a small squad. Photos of this game can be found in the "Comets Photo" link.

The is also a new Comet Photos link on the right side of this blog. Click on it and it will bring you to the Comets Flickr Page to view the latest photos. You can also download photos in a few different sizes. There are some really great shots there!

Some other parents have also been taking photos, and may also add there photos to this link.

Thanks Mr. Gildea for putting this together.

The Best Fans!

Whether the game is a Friday socializing event, or a tuesday afternoon excuse to avoid homework, the fan support has been great! Sure the parents have been at the games, but that's their job. But the students have been there in force! From the cheering to the horn blowing, the support has been great! I know the team appreciates it! Keep it up!

We'll see you the next game ... and bring more friends!

The louder the better!

Off To A Solid Start

The team is now into their third week of the season, and playing quite well. The start of the season had them playing back to back games against Bayonne and St. Joes.

The season opener was away at Bayonne. Everyone knew this was going to be a tough game against a strong Bayonne team, especially with the team captain, missing the game. Well they all played strong, and came away with a with a well earned 1-1 tie.

The next day would have them at their home opener against St. Joes. The expectations again were the same. Against a tough opponent and still missing Chris Odstadt, there was some concern with how this game would turn out. To St. Joe's surprise, the Comets were not intimidated. Not even the short bench slowed them down. Offense would produce 3 goals, and defense and goaltending would shut down the St. Joes scoring completely with a shut out. Comets go on to win 3-0.
