Catching up on a few games ...

Well, I haven't updated the blog in a couple of weeks, but I'm sure you guys have been reading the articles done by Joe Camporeale and his Northern Valley Ice Blog. If you haven't here is a quick recap ...

Comets 3 - Ramapo 7

In short, everyone knew this was going to be a tough game. However it seemed that the Comets just didn't bring their best game. They fell to a 0-4 deficit early in the game, and even after coming back to within 2 goals, they just couldn't put together enough consistent play to get back into the game. They fell to Ramapo 3-7, in a game they would like to forget.

Sorry, no photos, I had gone skiing instead ...

Comets 4 - Kinnelon 2

Well that was more like it. One day after the disapointing loss to Ramapo, the Comets really turned things round and played a very strong game against Kinnelon. They played and they played as a team. Hopefully this will be the norm for their play for the rest of the season ...

Strong Finish to the Weekend!

Comets 6 - Wayne Hills 2

It was the last game of a 3 game holiday weekend, and the Comets really needed those 2 points. Well they got them. The Comets came out stronger against a younger, smaller Wayne Hills team, who has been struggling this season.

After the Comets went up to a 3-0 lead after a strong first period, the Comets coaches felt it was a good opportunity to get Billy Regan into the game. At the start of the second period, it looked as if the Comets were a little too comfortable, and a misplayed puck found it's way onto a Wayne Hills stick. From just inside the face off circle the Wayne Hills player shot the puck just past Billy.

After shaking off the goal, Billy's play was solid and the Comets regained control of the game. The Comets finished with a 6-2 win over Wayne Hills, in a game that found ice time being shared amongst the entire roster. It was a great chance for all the players to contribute.

And better yet, the Comets finished with gaining 5 out of a possible 6 points. Now they have to turn their focus to the upcoming weekend with 2 tough games. It starts with a game Saturday against the very strong Ramapo team, and then the next day is Kinnelon, another tough opponent. Stay warm, and we'll see you at the rink!

Comets needed a win ... and got it!

Comets 6 - Old Tappan 3

Well coming off the tie to St. Joe's, that the Comets wished could have been a win, they knew they would have to play Old Tappan hard, if they were going to get that win. And they did play hard! The started off a little shakey with OT scoring within the first minute of the game. But then they settled down and started playing their game. It was a strong effort from everyone on the team! The passing was back. There were some great rushes that had started in the defensive zone, and with some great passing worked all the way up to shots on goal.

The defense and goaltending were a little off at the beginning of the game but then seemed to tighten up, with shots being blocked not only by the Daniel but also by the defense!

The Comets put tremendous pressure on the Old Tappan goalie, who played very well but by the third period it looked like the Comets found his weakness and exploited it! By the third period it looked like the Comets had total control of the game, and wound up winning 6-3! That game them 3 points out of a possible 4. Next up, Wayne Hills.

St. Joe's ends in a tie!

Comets 4 - St.Joe's 4

At the onset of a 3 game weekend, the Comets knew that it was important to get every point possible out of these games. It all started with St. Joe's. The game was as exciting as it was close. The scoring went back and forth trading leads.

With the game tied at 2, Jack Marut was streaming down the ice, and was pulled down from behind. He was awarded a penalty shot, always an exciting part of the game. With a nice clean moved Jack scored giving the Comets a 3-2 lead. Not too long later, however, St. Joe's managed to tie it up.

The Comets once again took the lead 4-3, and it looked like the would be able to hold onto the win. But St. Joe's managed to tie it up again. Even when the Comets had a 5 on 3 advantage, they were not able to score and the game ended in a tie. The Comets earned 1 point out of a possible 2. next up would be Old Tappan.

A Stronger Effort!

Comets 5 - Northern Highlands 2

Coming off the loss to Wayne Valley, it was important for the Comets to regroup, and put on another strong performance. They did, and the results were a well earned win. Strong team play, strong defense, quality passing and play making on offense, let the Comets control most of the game.

This was an important win, and hopefully one the Comets can build on with the upcoming 3 game weekend!
